Solar company providing emergency lighting during hurricane Isabel

It's All Solar in Raleigh, NC Crabtree Valley Mall provides emergency backup using solar power.

It's All Solar a new solar energy business in Crabtree Valley Mall has hit the niche at the right time. With the increased power concerns of the middle east, the blackout, and now the hurricane, solar energy is seeing a surge in consumer demand. Photovoltaics is the process which produce electricity from light and can be used to run a multitude of appliances or to charge batteries.

The It's All Solar kiosk at Crabtree, believed to be the first in a mall, markets consumer solar products good for everyday use. The store has very useful fluorescent lighting for emergency backup, boating, and camping, along with flashlights and radios that charge via the sun. Charging systems for batteries and other portable products, like cell phones, GPS,and PDA's are also available, along with projects and educational material for the kids.

Not only does the business supply the gadget world with goodies, serious solar energy use for homeowners is also promoted. Disaster backup systems to supply homeowners the ability to keep their food from spoiling during natural dissasters to full scale independent home systems can be designed. "Most people don't realize it, but the typical home can be made 50% more efficient by just changing the way we consume energy. When you combine that with a well designed PV (photovoltaic) electric system and the 35% tax credit from NC you get a very good proposition." says Conrad Hamrick, the founder. "For now we are focusing on getting people emergency lanterns that can last through a night and be recharged during the next sunny day"

Batteries and photovoltaics have a very good relationship together technically speaking. They are both intermitent devices, which means neither one is used all the time, but together they can supply enough energy to meet the demands of consumers. The battery banks will be utilized at night while the sun charges them using solar cells during the day. Most larger systems are engineered to hold up a customer for few days or up to a week.
